There are times when the pastoral staff may not hear about church members or visitors who have had a loved one to pass away. Please contact Sandra McKee at the church office if you have a death in your family, so that she can notify the pastoral staff.
PRAYER MINISTRY TEAM
This group will at 7:00pm in the Hemby House
This group will meet on the 1st Monday of each month (no meeting on Labor Day)
This team has been formed to encourage and support prayer in our church with the following goals:
· To deepen our relationships through prayer
· To increase listening to God in prayer
· To seek God's guidance in helping our congregation to become more prayerful
· To reach out in prayer to the surrounding community

HELP WANTED: Connecting Employers to Employees
We as a church want to help the many people in our congregation who are out of work. If you are an employer, looking for employees, please fill out an application about the position to be filled. Bring the application to the church office Please note we cannot vouch for persons applying for a position. We appreciate any leads on jobs that might help someone find work!
There is a Job Opportunity Bulletin Board in the hallway beside Helms Hall, next to the Preschool classrooms. This board is for anyone who would like to post a job opening to help people in our congregation who are out of work find employment. Prayerfully, this board will be a help to the many people who are looking for a job.
Cancer Care Team
For anyone interested in being a part of the Cancer Care Team, there is a need for additional people who could help in preparing meals, visitations, running errands, providing child care and gift certificates from restaurants, etc. for families struggling with cancer. Please contact Rev. Ed Briggs at (704) 846-1032 if you can assist in any of these areas of ministry.
Alzheimer's/Dementia Caregiver Support Group
4th Thursday of each month
Note: The next meeting is scheduled for August 26th
This group seeks to encourage and educate caregivers and family members of those dealing with these conditions. This group normally meets on the 4th Thursday of each month from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m. at the Hemby House unless otherwise specified. In February, this group will begin viewing HBO’s The Alzheimer’s Project DVD Series. Visit www.weddingtonchurch.org for details. This group is open to members of the community, so invite your friends and family.

Narcotics Anonymous
Narcotics Anonymous meets every Tuesday from 7:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. in Modular B, Room 5, and Fridays from 11:00 p.m. - 12:30 a.m. and Saturdays from 12:30 p.m. - 1:30 p.m. and 8:00 pm - 9:15 pm in the Fellowship Hall.
DivorceCare Support Group - Beginning September 8th
Wednesdays from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m.

GriefShare Support Group - Beginning September 8th
Wednesdays from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m.
Location: Modular A, Room 4
If you, or someone you know, have experienced the death of a family member or friend, please know hope can be found through GriefShare. This support group is designed to bring comfort and care to those who are grieving.

Military Family Gathering
We are having a gathering of family members who have loved ones serving in the military on August 31st at 7:00 pm in the Hemby House. We will be making plans for our Christmas in a box project. Please contact Sandra McKee if you would like to attend.

Women's Ministry Opportunities
The United Methodist Women (UMW) will be hosting casual events each month in an effort to build cohesiveness between all the women's groups of the church and to reach out to ladies that are new to the church or are still looking for ways to get involved and connected.
These activities will include meeting for lunch or dinner, catching a movie at a local theatre, or just hanging out at a designated spot. We are looking forward to an incredible year of fellowship! If you have ideas for casual WOW events, please contact Susan Blackwelder at 704-225-1239.

Wednesday Night Alive
Wednesday Night Alive is Coming Back in Force!!!! - September 8th
Wednesday Night Alive is a program that brings our church together for food, fellowship and Bible study. The evening begins with an optional meal served at 5:30 p.m., followed by Bible studies that begin at 7 p.m. The cost of meals are $5 per adult, $3 per child with a $20 cap per family. Fall 2010 meals and classes will start September 8th and run through November 17th.

Alpha: This 10-week topical series is a powerful tool both for evangelistic outreach and Christian disciplining. Its thoughtful presentation followed by lively small group discussion has a very wide appeal. Crown Financial: Would you like to better control your finances and honor God in the process? This class is designed to help you achieve these objectives. Email Sonja Houston if you are interested in participating.

This group meets at 10:00 am on the second Thursday of each month (September - May).

Music Ministry Opportunities
INSTRUMENTALISTS NEEDED
On September 12th we will introduce a sanctuary orchestra called 'Jubilate Deo' at our 11:00 am service. The orchestra is open to high school students and adults who have experience playing string, woodwind, brass or percussion instruments.
The skill to read music is necessary. Even more importantly, we need people who love the Lord, feel CALLED by God to help lead our congregation in worship and who will be faithfully committed.
Weekly rehearsals will begin in August (times to be determined) so that we are prepared to lead worship on September 12th.

Mission Opportunities
Foreign Missions Fair - September 12thStop by Helms Hall between services to learn more about the foreign missions of our church. Representatives will be there to talk to you about the mission, how you can help, and trips being planned for 2011.Backpacks and school supplies needed!!
The Home of the Good Shepherd in Kenya needs backpacks and school supplies for 68 children. Please donate your gently used backpacks as well as pens, pencils and spiral bound notebooks. Pick up some when you shop for your children!! There is a designated box in Helms Hall for donations.
Costa Rica Building Mission 2011
The WUMC Building Mission for Costa Rica is returning to Esparza to continue their work on the shelter for abused women and children that the group began last year. The trip will be from Wednesday, January 12th to Saturday, January 22nd, 2011.

Golf Tournament Fundraiser for Costa Rica
Get your irons and putters read and join us on Tuesday,m September 7th at Firethorne Country Club for a tournament to raise funds for the building mission in Costa Rica.
The registration fee is $125.00 per person. Volunteers are needed to help obtain door prizes and assist with registration and coordination.
Tee times will begin at Noon with registration and practice starting at 11:00 am. There will be a light lunch provided prior to tee off.

Children's Ministry Opportunities

Join Us August 28th beginning at 7:00 pm in the WCA modular parking lot (directly behind the church). The movie will start at dusk. We will have popcorn, soda, ice cream and candy available.
We will also have a JUMP HOUSE and GAMES!!!
Sonshine Safari
Sonshine Safari is an incredibly fun, biblically based children's worship service using puppets in a jungle setting. This service meets at 11:00 a.m. each Sunday with the exception of the first Sunday of each month, and is designed for grades K-5. Children are invited to board the big blue bus behind the education building and ride across the street to begin their safari experience. Sonshine Safari will not meet during June, July and August. The big blue bus will return in September.
Kids Express
Are you looking for a fun and lively place for your children to go to on Wednesday nights? Come and be a part of Kids Express - our Wednesday night program for children age 4 through 5th grade. Our program runs from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. and meets the same time adult Bible studies meet. This program runs from September - March (the same months as Wednesday Night Alive).
This session children ages 4 and 5 will study “Simple Stories Jesus Told”. Here they will learn a parable and Bible point each week as they grow closer to Jesus! Children in grades 1-5 will take a journey to the 23rd Psalm. Here they will learn about God’s provision and protection and can take comfort in knowing “The Lord is my shepherd.” Children in the 4’s and 5’s class will meet in Room 204, and children in grades 1-5 will meet in Helms Hall. Childcare is available for children under age 4 in the nursery wing from 7:00 until 8:00 p.m. if needed.

Altar Flowers
Be sure to sign up on the calendar in the Information Center to purchase altar flowers in honor or memory of a loved one or to commemorate a special day in your lives. After you sign up, just place a check or cash in one of the envelopes provided and place it in the offertory plate or bring it to the church office. An announcement will be place in the bulletin on that Sunday to share your gift of love with the congregation. The cost is $50.00 per Sunday.
