Weddington Christian Preschool is a weekday children's ministry of Weddington Church, a United Methodist Community. We are located in Weddington Church, "up on the hill" at the intersection of Providence Road and Weddington Road. Using The Bible, The Creative Curriculum (TeachingStrategies.com), and Handwriting Without Tears (HWTears.com), children in our program will be offered opportunities to meet a variety of Christian, academic, physical, social and emotional goals. The goals and objectives for our 4 and 5 year old programs are designed to prepare a child for kindergarten. However, the Bible basis of our program will plant seeds for a Christian faith in a child's heart for a lifetime.
Children in the 3, 4, and Transitional Kindergarten (5's) classes will attend music class and art class for 30 minutes each week, as well as a monthly preschool appropriate chapel service in the main sanctuary. The 2 year olds will participate in a music & motion class once per week for 30 minutes. The music and art teachers are a part of our WCP staff and plan activities to further develop a preschooler's blossoming creativity. Children are offered outdoor time on our playgrounds for 30 minutes each day, weather permitting. A fenced courtyard is also available for extra fresh air. On rainy days Helms Hall is filled with gross motor toys and provides lots of run around room. This is a large, bright, open room at the center of our facility which was used for many years as the Weddington Church Sanctuary.
WCP follows the Union County Public School calendar for holidays. We start our preschool year after Labor Day and finish in the third week of May. Children attend from 9:00a.m. to 1:00p.m, Monday through Thursday. Depending on age, children may attend 2,3, or 4 days per week. Click here to see the 2008-2009 Preschool Calendar.
Please see the Classes & Fees page for more details on specific class offerings, tuition, and fees. Children eat a lunch sent from home each day in their classrooms. WCP will offer a simple snack and ask the parent to send an extra snack drink. A variety of quiet and busy activities are offered throughout the preschool day, some are teacher directed and some are child led.
Car rider drop off and pick up lines are available to bring children into and out of our building each day. The lines generally start up in the third week of September after children have settled into their new classrooms and parents and teachers have gotten familiar with each other. Morning drop off will run from 8:50 a.m. to 9:05 a.m. and afternoon pick up from 12:50 p.m. to 1:05 p.m. Late or early arrivers should plan to park, sign in, and walk to children's classes, entering at the Education Wing doors.
Registration is held in January for the following school year. Please visit the Registration page for more information on how to register your child for Weddington Christian Preschool. Tours are offered in January prior to closing registration. Wait lists are kept by age level and are created after registration. A Wait List will stay in effect until registration for the following school year is completed. As a general rule, only 4 and 5 year old classroom openings will be filled after February 1st.
We firmly believe that each child is a unique creation of our Father God, deserving of respect and love. We provide an environment that allows chldren to discover the lessons Jesus taught through prayer, instruction, and play each day. We also endeavor to maintain a warm and welcoming atmosphere that will minister not only to the children but also to you, the caregiver, and our very precious WCP staff members.
