Home » Donate with Dignity

At Weddington Methodist Church, an important part of our mission is to humbly serve our neighbors and our community, recognizing that service often begins right within our own homes.

We believe that we are abundantly blessed, and it is our calling to share these blessings with others, fostering a spirit of generosity and compassion. Our faith teaches us that every act of kindness, no matter how small, is a reflection of God’s love.

Donating with dignity means extending our generosity in a way that upholds the inherent worth and respect of those we aim to assist, ensuring that our giving is a source of empowerment and dignity for all.

Here are a few simple tips to make sure you are donating, and not dumping

First, ask yourself some simple questions:

  • Is this item damaged?
This could include stains, rips, cracks, or chips.
  • Are there missing pieces?
For example, a hand mixer with only one beater or a puzzle without all the pieces.
  • Does it work and is it safe?
For example, will the camera take a picture? Does the fan work on all settings?
  • Is this item so out-of-date it’s no longer useful?
For example VHS tapes or old SAT study guides.
  • If I were on the receiving end of this item, would I be disappointed?

If you answered yes to any of the above, the items you’re thinking of donating may be better off at the dump. When it’s time to dump instead of donate, keep recycling centers in mind.

Donating Smart!

Local organizations want to help you donate smartly. See below for a list of local agencies designed to help focus donations to the needs of the groups served. When in doubt, you can always reach out to the organization directly and ask if the item you wish to donate is appropriate.
