Meet Patsy Sorrell
Meet Patsy Sorrell, WMC’s New Director of Adult Discipleship
This month at Weddington Methodist Church, we are thrilled to welcome our new Director of Adult Discipleship, Patsy Sorrell. Patsy was born in Columbus, Ohio and grew up in Naperville, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago. After high school she attended the College of DuPage and Iowa State University.
Patsy comes to Weddington with more than fifteen years of experience serving in the local church. She served as the Director of Adult Discipleship at Wheatland Salem United Methodist Church in Naperville, IL from 2003-2008. Upon completing her theological training and Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) she graduated from Northern Seminary in 2008 with a Master of Divinity. She then served as the Pastor of Care Ministries & Discipleship at Gary United Methodist Church in Wheaton, IL from 2008-2015. The areas of ministry she provided leadership to included care ministries, adult discipleship, church communications, leadership development and support, pastoral care and hospital visitation, small group development, large group events, children’s ministry, preaching, worship leadership and planning, and more.
Patsy is excited to begin her work at Weddington UMC and feels a deep passion for Adult Discipleship. “I love to hear people’s stories and how God is at work in their lives. I have always had a heart for connecting people to others and have a real passion for encouraging folks to grow in their relationship with God. Weddington UMC is such a vibrant church with so many different ways to connect, grow, and serve. I’m excited to see God at work in and through Weddington UMC and to consider new ways God is leading us to grow personally and make a difference in our communities and day-to-day lives.”
Patsy’s vision for Adult Discipleship at Weddington is to create opportunities for everyone to be nurtured and encouraged to grow in their faith and experience God’s grace and goodness. “I’m a firm believer in practical, faith-filled living. As we invite God into our lives, God shows up in amazing and meaningful ways. My hope is that in creating different types of opportunities for adults to connect, grow, and ponder their relationship with God, it will enable us all to keep our hearts and spirits refreshed and open to God at work in and through us. I also have a soft spot in my heart for leaders and an appreciation for the time, effort, and passion God has given them to share their gifts. God has given me a heart for helping and supporting leaders in their ministry so that they, too, are encouraged and feel equipped to be their best and follow God’s lead in their ministry.”
Patsy and her husband, Bob, moved to the Charlotte area in 2016, where her parents also live. Bob runs their printing business near Lake Norman and is an avid tennis player. They have a blended family of five adult children, Kelli (28), Bobby (27), Kevin (23), Jackson (27) and Noah (21). Weddington Methodist Church looks forward to welcoming Patsy, Bob, and their family into our community of faith as we seek to fulfill our call to be the physical presence of Jesus Christ. Her official start date was July 16, 2018.
