Meet Tony Gibson, our new Weddington Christian Counseling Counselor 

 

Tony Gibson, MA, LMFT, has been ministering in the field of Marriage and Family Therapy for twenty years.  He received his Masters at the University of St. Joseph in West Hartford, Connecticut.  Tony’s prior work experience includes a wide range of clinical servicing, from outpatient to acute-level residential care.  He is currently licensed as a Marriage and Family Therapist by the state of North Carolina Licensure Board and the Connecticut Department of Public Health.  Tony operated a church-based private practice from 1997, serving a network of churches and ministries in the Greater Hartford region, until his move to Charlotte in December.  Tony provides individual, marital/couples, family and group therapy.  He has extensive training and knowledge on challenges faced by adolescents/young adults, single adults, married couples, and families.  He has received advanced training in Trauma-informed Cognitive Behavioral and Dialectical Behavioral therapy intervention.  He also possesses experience working with clients challenged with Autism and Intellectual/Developmental Disability.  Tony is designated as an Approved Supervisor for the American Association of Marriage & Family Therapists.  He is credentialed as a Military Support Therapist, Casey Life Skills Educator, and is certified in Non-violent Crisis Intervention.  He attended the Behavioral Health Leadership Program at Yale University, as well as the Therapeutic Crisis Intervention program at Cornell University.

 

Tony also has experience initiating, establishing, and building clinical programs to include outpatient clinics, group homes, and other community-based programming.  He formerly served at the executive-level as Chief Operating Officer of a regional, behavioral-developmental agency.  His roles have included provision of clinical and administrative supervision, and program expansion.

 

Additional voluntary ministry work includes service trips to the Dominican Republic with the Dominican Republic Mission Team out of Wallingford, Connecticut in the provision of medical clinics, children’s ministry, and distribution of food in the rural sugar cane bateyes, as well as construction work and door-to-door evangelism in the city of San Pedro de Marcoris.  Tony has volunteered with Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child for many years as well as events sponsored by World Vision and Food for the Hungry.  He enjoys spending time with his wife and three children, is an avid reader, and loves the outdoors, enjoying hiking, camping, canoeing, and is currently learning rock climbing.

 

Tony is excited to join the Weddington UMC Christian Counseling Center as he recently relocated his family from Windsor, Connecticut to the Greater Charlotte area.
