The Ark Children's Ministry

Our Mission at The Ark is to lead kids to

KNOW God’s Word,

GROW in faith, &

SHOW God’s love.

Wo do this through engaging Bible teaching, caring adult shepherds, and a community where every child is loved, valued, and encouraged to grow in their faith – wherever they are!

Sunday Mornings

Noah's Nursery

Birth – 2  Years

A professionally staffed nursery is available on Sundays, 8:15 a.m.–12:15 p.m. and during special church events. Our nursery team provides a safe, nurturing space for your little ones so you can worship with peace of mind.

Please bring labeled diaper bag with all your child needs for the duration of their stay.

In J.A.M., kids grow as disciples while discovering that Jesus is their closest friend who calls each of us to follow Him. Join us weekly during the school year for a midweek night of:

Bible Memory & Games
Worship & Small Group Connection

J.A.M. is a place where kids build friendships and grow in their faith midweek. Through fun, friendship, and discipleship, we help kids see that we’re all called to walk with Jesus together.

Location & Check In

Children’s Ministry is located in the Sanctuary Building – Building C.
Families will check in at the Children’s Welcome Desk – referred to as “Kid Check”, where each child receives a printed name tag and parents receive a secure pick-up tag.

A friendly face will be at Kid Check to answer any questions you may have. You are welcome to register for your free online account here or we can assist you when you arrive.

Safety & Security

Your child’s safety is our highest priority.
We ensure a secure, caring environment through:
  • Background-checked and trained volunteers
  • Secure check-in and pick-up system
  • Hallway and classroom monitoring
  • Allergy awareness and clear communication with parents
Sick Policy
In order to keep our nurseries and classrooms as healthy as possible, we ask that you please keep your child home if he or she has exhibited any of the following symptoms in the past 24 hours:

  • Fever greater or equal to 100 degrees
  • Moderate drainage (clear or discolored) from the mouth, nose, or ears
  • Ear pain or ear aches
  • Skin rashes as they are difficult to diagnose unless by a physician
  • Severe abdominal pain, vomiting, or diarrhea
  • A deep, hacking cough
  • Difficulty breathing or untreated wheezing
  • Complaints of a stiff neck and headache
  • An unusual coloring of the skin or eyes
  • Cuts or openings that are pus-filled or oozing
  • Lice or nits
  • Any contagious disease (mumps, chicken pox, etc.)

Children should be excluded from Sunday School or Wednesday night programs until their condition subsides or there is documentation from the child’s doctor stating the child is no longer contagious.  We want to keep everyone as healthy as possible—especially our littlest angels in our nurseries.  Our Children’s Ministry Team appreciates your help. If you have any questions, please contact our Children's Minister, Carolyn Nelson.

Ministry & Programs

HISkids
HISkids is a ministry devoted to children between the ages of 4 and 11 who need a separate learning environment or a special “Buddy” to aid them as they navigate a regular classroom setting.  Each week children hear a Bible story, create fun Bible crafts, pray, enjoy snack time, listen to music, and play! Our HISkids program is not currently meeting but has plans to begin at a later date.
Vacation Bible Camp (VBC)
Vacation Bible Camp (VBC) is our single largest yearly event for children. More than 400 children, youth, and adults laugh, learn, and grow in their relationships with each other and with Jesus. Each year brings an action-packed theme that includes praise and worship music, Bible stories, games, snacks, and crafts.

Mark your calendars for June 22-25 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Registration opens in April.
Special Programs
We are committed to strengthening today’s families through sharing the Word of God creatively through special events, programs, and family workshops. These events can include an Easter Family Event, Back to School Celebration, Fall Festival, Happy Birthday Jesus Party, Christmas Family Event, special performances by Christian entertainers, and more!

Meet the Ark team.

Children's Minister
Carolyn Nelson serves as the Children’s Pastor at Weddington Methodist Church and has been part of the Weddington staff since June 1999, where she jumped right into leading VBS for over 400 children. Carolyn is passionate about sharing Jesus with every child and helping them know Him as their forever friend. She believes every child is deeply loved, valued, and worthy of hearing the Good News of Christ.
Carolyn holds a teaching degree from SUNY Oswego and a Master of Arts from Asbury Theological Seminary with a focus in Children’s Ministry.
She is married to Daniel and is the proud mom of her daughter, Jordan. Carolyn enjoys reading, hiking in Switzerland, listening to 70’s music, and spending time with friends over coffee and dessert. She dreams of one day having a bookmobile to share her love of reading with children around the world.
Children's Ministry Assistant
Ashley and her husband joined Weddington Methodist Church soon after moving to North Carolina. After visiting for the first time, they knew this church was home. She has been involved in different ministries over the years – a facilitator of the Greif-Share ministry after going through it as a participant. She has taught Sunday morning classes for the past thirteen years since having her daughter and has served in Youth Ministry.

After many years of serving, she is now part of the ministry team here at Weddington. Ashley considers it a privilege to teach young disciples about the love of Jesus and to walk along side of them as they grow in their faith.

"Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young"

1 Timothy 4:12

"What initially attracted me as a young wife and mother to Weddington Church was the beautiful campus,
the warmth of the congregation, and the fabulous Children’s Ministry."
